A Different Island. An Honest One.

Our shirts are cut and sewn in Sri Lanka, a small teardrop-shaped island nation in the Indian Ocean. It is roughly the size of West Virginia, with one of the world’s longest unbroken Buddhist traditions (over 2,000 years, continuous since ~250 BC) and a textile heritage running from centuries-old handloom weaving to a modern garment industry known globally for ethical, high-quality production.

Our name comes from that heritage too, sort of. We set out to call the brand Unalome, the Buddhist symbol for the winding path to enlightenment, a spiral that slowly straightens into a line. Then we found out people constantly misspell it as Unilome. We kept it & liked it even better. Life’s path isn’t straight. Ours wasn’t, and neither is the island’s.

And the island isn’t a sourcing decision, the team is married into it — literally! One part of the team is Sri Lankan. Seven years ago, the SF-based founder didn’t know a single Sri Lankan; since then they’ve learned the language, climbed Sigiriya, ridden the train through Ella, celebrated New Year’s in Weligama, and we’re building toward living there part-time. Unilome exists so the trips never stop.
